As our industry continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and we see a return to tourism, we need continued support from the federal government to ensure we can meet demand.

As many of you know, the federal government has the constitutional responsibility for regulating motor carriers, but the Motor Vehicle Transport Act, 1987 delegates to the provinces the authority to regulate them. Unfortunately, this gap in authority has left federally regulated motor coach carriers with little support or leadership at both levels of government.

However, the Federal government can take a leadership role and assist Motor Coach businesses across Canada in supporting tourism activities and reconnecting Canada. That’s why we are asking the federal government to:

  1. Provide a 5% carve-out in federal transit investments to directly support private motor coach operators
  2. Introduce a government secured, tourism assistance loan program
  3. Invest in the development of a national coast-to-coast motor coach network

To communicate these asks to the federal government, MCC and OMCA have launched a letter-writing campaign targeted at local MPs and relevant ministers. To support our asks and help effect change, please consider sending a pre-written letter to your local MP. Your support will show the government there is a need to implement a strategy to grow the motor coach network across the country.
